The Viasat Operations Centre received an intrusion alarm which, for the SOS CALL device, generates direct voice contact in the cab. The operator requested confirmation from the person in the car who stated that he was the brother of the owner without adding other data and subsequently the line was cut off.
The operator, whose suspicion had been aroused, not convinced of the circumstances, called the owner who confirmed the theft of the vehicle: after driving the car out of the garage he had left this unattended for a moment with the keys in the dash. The thieves had taken advantage of this situation to steal the vehicle – a Mercedes CLK 320 Coupè – from its legitimate owner. After alerting the local Police Force, the vehicle was relocated where it had been abandoned by the thieves, along the provincial road.
