The vehicle was stolen from inside a garage after the thieves had forced two gates. The Operations Centre located the vehicle and contacted the Police which recovered the vehicle in the position indicated. Subsequently, the Carabinieri reported that, according to various witnesses, the vehicle had stopped in Vico VII Duchessa in Naples and, following prompt blocking by the operator of the Viasat Operations Centre Viasat, the thieves were unable to start the car. They had tried to push the the vehicle to a garage in Via Ruffilli in Naples where they asked the garage owner to park the car in his garage. The garage owner, whose suspicions had been aroused, refused to accept the vehicle in his garage. At this point, the thieves abandoned the car and ran off.
The engine blocking function of Viasat Systems makes it possible, once the owner of the vehicle has left the vehicle, fitted with automatic recognition system or at the explicit request of the Operations Centre (from remote), to inhibit ignition of the engine. This represents an effective obstacle to theft of the vehicle which, once the engine has been switched off, cannot be restarted.
