Viasat added Hungary in the service for electronic TOLL Collection in Europe

Since February 2022, Viasat has included Hungary to its vToll International TOLL collection service in Europe. Thus, the countries in which trucks can automatically pay tolls become 11. 

What you need to know about tolls in Hungary

The toll road network in Hungary is managed by NUSZ (National Toll Collection Service) and consists of 6745 km highways and intercity roads. The freight vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tonnes are required to pay tolls when using the toll road network in Hungary. Hungarian tolls include value added tax (VAT) of 27%.

How tolls are calculated in Hungary

The calculation of tolls in Hungary is based on the following parameters:

  • Kilometers traveled
  • Type of the used road section (motorway or intercity road)
  • Number of axles of the vehicle
  • Ecological category of the vehicle ( A ≥ EURO 5; B = EURO 2 to 4; C ≤ EURO 1)

Which tunnels and bridges are included in vToll International

With vToll International , trucks can automatically pay tolls for the Herrentunnel tunnels in Germany and the Liefkenshoek tunnels in Belgium. The bridges included in the electronic toll payment are the Storeabelt bridge in Denmark and the Oresund bridge connecting Sweden and Denmark.

How the customer pays tolls in Hungary and the other 10 countries

The tolls are paid after the use of the paid road sections by the trucks. The user of the vToll International service receives an invoice for the tolls he owes every two weeks after using the paid toll sections.

What is the on-board device for providing vToll International service?

The vToll International service is provided via an easy-to-use bMoov on-board device. The latter is installed in the driver’s cab by means of a fixed installation made by a professional or by plugging in the truck’s lighter.
