Tachograph: new rules on installation, repairs and inspections

It is reported in recent days. Three truck drivers were fined by traffic police while driving with a tachograph that had been tampered with. One of them also with an expired license and CQC. And all were punished with a fine of 1,736 euros, combined with suspension and withdrawal of their licenses between 15 days and 3 months.

Regulations and penalties
Regulations on driving and rest hours for drivers working in the trucking industry are established to protect their health and to ensure road traffic safety.
Article 179 of the Highway Code is the rule dedicated to administrative fines for violation of legal provisions.

The new rules on tachographs

It is worth mentioning that on May 6, new rules regarding the assembly, repairs and periodic checks of truck-mounted tachographs came into effect through a decree issued by the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy. The first novelty is that vehicle repair companies in the mechanical, electrical and mechatronic sectors may also be authorized to carry out assembly, repairs and inspections, provided that they do not operate on tachographs installed on vehicles they own or on devices belonging to companies to which they are in any way traceable.

Management of the tachograph and compliance with regulations is, therefore, a complex issue, but a fundamental one for companies.
