4 consequences of fleet optimization through GPS tracking

Besides good organisation, in order to optimise your corporate fleet, you need to turn to technologies, particularly telematics, better known as GPS tracking and control systems. If you are looking for a way to reduce traffic accidents involving your vehicles or optimise fuel costs, you can read what results are achieved using GPS tracking and control systems.

Reduction of accidents

Safety is one of the biggest concerns for modern corporate fleets and telematics is one of the tools which can be used for its improvement.

Here is an example of a company with 450 light cargo vehicles. Its goal was to reduce the number of accidents, which is why it implemented a GPS control system in order to keep track of the behaivour of the drivers, speeding and particular places where accidents occur.

The company experienced 20% less accidents in the first year after GPS tracking system implementation. The number of accidents grew even smaller over the coming years.

Reduction of idle work of engine

The biggest cost for fleets, after maintenance, is fuel. Using telematic software, the owners of corporate fleets receive a much more clear idea of how much idle work of the engine is affecting their fuel expenditure.

The next example is of a company which uses a GPS system in order to keep track of the duration and number of stops its vehicles make. After implementationof GPS devices, the fleet manager realised that every vehicle makes between 30 and 40 stops per day and many of the drivers often leave the engine running out of habit, which amounts to an average of 70 minutes of idle engine work per day. One hour of idle work per day equals roughly 4,5 liters of diesel fuel. In this way every driver uses 36 liters of fuel every week in useless idle work.

Using telematics software, the company manages to reduce the amount of idle work drastically. They set themselves a goal of ten minutes per day and started keeping track of driver behaviour. In case someone went over the time limit, the GPS systems generates a report and sends it to the fleet manager, who talks to his driver and corrects the problem.

In just a few months, drivers reduced the amount of idle work from 70 minutes per day to 7 minutes, saving about 140 liters of fuel per car per month.

Effective Routing

Routing or rather the optimal selection of a route to a certain objective is another factor with a large influence on fuel costs, which a client might decide to optimise.

Before implementing telematics (GPS contron), the company depended largely on information from the drivers without having a way to check it. The company set itself the goal of improving routing efficiency and obtaining detailed information about the arrival at objectives.

The company solved the problem using telematic software which eliminates inefficiency in routing and reduced miles traveled by 30% in the first year, while increasing the productivity of the driver and vehicle.

Increase in the total efficency of the corporate fleet.

Our clients, which have been using GPS telematics for the last three years, confirmed its contribution to an increase in safe and efficient driving as well as in the amount of objective information they receive about when the engine is running idle, the fuel consumption and the miles per liter of fuel.
