As soon as he became aware that his BMW 745 had been stolen, a Viasat Client’s alerted the Operations Centre to activate the recovery procedure. The operator located the vehicle parked in a secondary road and immediately notified the Police which found this in precisely the position indicated.
Although constantly decreasing, car thefts are still a very frequent phenomenon. Recovery trends fluctuate and the data of one year is not always better than the previous year.
Last year, for example, 41% of vehicles stolen were recovered compared 43% in 2012. The data tend to vary according to engine rating; in the case of high engine rating, i.e. luxury cars, these are much more difficult to recover if not adequately protected with satellite systems. In many cases, these thefts are commissioned and the vehicles are concealed, counterfeiting their identity and then exported abroad.
